Mathematics: What is mastery and how do we teach to achieve it?

This course aims to give teachers an insight into what is meant by a Maths Mastery curriculum. It explores ways of delivering maths lessons from a maths mastery standpoint.

Through task related seminars, participants will consider the mathematical content at this level and how to deliver it to develop students’ mastery of the subject and outstanding teaching.

The course explores how to teach concrete and pictorial representations of mathematics, and the reasons for doing so. It looks at ways of developing and deepening a student’s structural knowledge. Delegates will look at how connections can be made between the different areas of mathematics.

Participants will look at ways to plan learning which ensure that they:

  • Meet the needs of the curriculum, Ofsted's expectations and good teaching.
